CLINICAL PRACTICE

Modern clinical practice is based upon body of knowledge formulated through a systematic review of evidence, and careful assessment of the benefits and harms of alternative treatment options. Practice of medicine should follow a sound methodology formed by translation of the best scientific evidence into clinical settings.

All the above theoretical statements are certainly true, however their implementation into the real world settings are more challenging - than one would expect. Practice of medicine does not happen in the optimized and standardized laboratory setting. It occurs in a very complex and rapidly changing socio-economic matrix of the real world.

New trends in the way in which clinical care is delivered are emerging rapidly. Those include shift towards the patient-centered medical care, implementation of Electronic Health Records, increasing reliance on tele-medicine - to name just a few.

ARCRO can provide busy clinicians with the specialized consulting and support - designed to help them not only to survive but thrive in this rapidly changing environment.

TEACHING OF MEDICINE

Medical education has developed into the extremely robust and diverse field. It encompasses graduate education of medical students, postgraduate training of interns and residents as well as continuous medical education of established clinicians. Clinical education occurs in numerous settings. It includes traditional classroom based lectures, bedside learning and the self-study - through reading the medical literature.

While learning in the clinical setting is the cornerstone of medical education, other forms of acquiring medical expertise are important as well. Clinical teacher plays a pivotal role in all those forms of medical learning. Clinical educator is expected to deliver the comprehensive, well organized and informative lectures, He/she is charged with teaching during the hospital rounds and outpatient encounters. Moreover, good clinical instructor guides his/her students through the self-learning process.

Academic institutions increasingly utilize the concept of medical teaching portfolios to assure that their faculty members are competent teachers. A teaching portfolio is defined as a set of documents and multimedia materials reflecting the teaching performance of the faculty member.

ARCRO can assist academic teachers in development and maintenance of the impressive teaching portfolios - which would attest to their excellence as medical educators.  Moreover, ARCO is involved in several educational initiatives aimed at improving the core clinical skills of medical trainees. ARCRO is especially focused on utilization of novel information technologies in the process of strengthening the link between the formal medical education and the opportunistic learning at the bedside.
